How do you go about searching for a lost Whippet?
NEW!!! as of 7/22/2010 - - The Missing Pet Partnership is a non-profit organization that offers help with finding lost pets. If you have lost your beloved pet, this site offers practical information we haven't seen on any other site, and is a must to visit for information.
This page is presented as a service to Whippet owners all over - a lost Whippet is of concern to all of us, and the families of these lost pups need all the help they can get to find their Whippets. These Whippets are NOT necessarily WRAP Whippets, but still need to be found. If they can be found and returned to their owners, they will not end up in WRAP on the "Homes Needed" page.
If a Whippet listed here is in your area and you are able, please take the time to call the contact person and offer assistance in finding the dog. Your efforts will be greatly appreciated.

Lewis - In the early morning hours Tuesday August 10 the wind blew our front door open and our three whippet males went exploring. When my husband discovered it, he went out immediately. He found one still waiting in the yard. He drove around until he found another one near the house 14 hours later. We are still looking for our third boy. Our home is on 112th Avenue between Rock Ridge Drive (where O'Malley Elementary is) and Ridgecrest Drive. We have primarily been searching in the area bounded by Hillside, O'Malley, and Birch roads. This is a very heavily wooded area on the hillside. The first few days Bob gave business cards with our phone number to any joggers, dog walkers, or residents we saw in the area. We have called animal control twice daily. We contacted all of the area vets. By Monday we had put up about 20 8.5 x 11" Lost Dog posters around the area. This weekend we plan to put up 20x24" flourescent Lost Dog posters. We have a Lost Dog classified in the ADN and on Craig's List. We put a Lost Dog ad on Petfinders.The missing dog is a six-year old brown and white whole male whippet. He is large (close to 24 inches tall at the shoulder) and weighs 50 pounds. That is all muscle. He is very athletic and fast (about 35 mph). He was wearing a faded turquoise blue breakaway collar with a brass plate with his grandmother's name and our phone number (he outgrew the collar with his name). He is shy and very gentle, and he is not used to strangers. His name is Lewis (His litter mate that we did recover is Clark) but he may answer to Louey, LuLu, Lewis J. Dog, or Good Dog. His shots, including rabies, were current in June, but he isn't wearing his tags on his collar because they kept getting caught in the porch decking when they slept in the sun. Our dogs are like our children and we are desperate to recover Lewis. If you hear anything, if anyone reports a sighting or recovers him, please call us. There is almost always someone at home except the several times a day when we go out looking for him. We are offering a reward for his return. Lost whippet in the Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge area of British Columbia
Lady was scared by fireworks and escaped from her yard late Halloween night. She is mostly white, with brindle head marking

Keegan is still lost, but we believe he is in the area - less than a mile from home. His photo is shown below. We spoke with an animal communicator, and she told us that Keegan is not far from home and is in hiding. He was hit by a car - someone in the neighborhood called us from one of the "lost" posters and said she saw him get hit but couldn't catch him. That was on 12/23. We don't know how badly he is hurt.
I'll be putting out more "lost" posters in the area around the RR tracks that run parallel to Andrews Avenue just North of SR 84 and South of Davie Boulevard. The area we are searching is North of SR 84, South of Davie
Blvd., West of Andrews Ave. and East of SW 9th Avenue.

My Whippet Trooper is missing. He broke out of his yard when someone was shooting a gun and I didn't discover he was gone until long afterwards. He is deep red, with white trim... neutered male... 38 lbs. Our Whippet was lost on December 23 in Baton Rouge, LA. He escaped from the Lake Beau Pre condominiums subdivision off of River Road near LSU. Update 06/14/2010:
Once again, the male whippet in South Lyon, Mi is on the loose. He managed to open a sliding glass door, trash the screen and escape the yard. I'm hoping to go up early tomorrow to help post flyers and search the area. Sheila is hoping he'll return for dinner and a soft bed.

Pyro was stolen from his owner's yard in October 2007. Posters have been posted around the county, ads in newspapers, police, shelters, vets, and area businesses have been contacted, with no sightings. Pyro's owner still goes out searching daily. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brodie and Pokie
Two missing whippets (look like little greyhounds) have been missing since the last week of August 2008. They were last seen at Tramway and Spain in the foothills N of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The whippets are a 16 month old neutered brother and spayed sister, named Brodie and Pokie. The female is small with a grey and white face. The male is brown brindle. They are wearing ID and collars.
The traveling owner left the dogs in the care of someone, who left the dogs in the care of someone else, and the dogs disappeared. 50 volunteers are looking and hiking the foothills and putting up posters...but not one lead.

A blue male Whippet (looks like gray metallic miniature grayhound) was lost in the Tulsa/Catoosa area. He was last seen on Admiral and 145th on the night of April 12 between 8pm-10pm. I believe he could be somewhere in this area or in the neighborhood. He has a grayish blackish leather collar on and a blue dog tag. His name is Ridenti or Denti - he will come to both. We are really praying for Denti to come home and we are devastated that he is gone. Please keep your eye out!!

Sigma
Our new dog has been gone since 7:30 Saturday morning. He is most likely hiding in a corner or a shed, under a porch, or under bushes. He is very athletic -- Whippets have been known to jump a 6-foot fence. He can run faster than a greyhound. He can't survive outside as it gets colder due to very little body fat. This little guy was just beginning to make progress in our home. He is just a year old and never had a name, so he does not respond real well to "Sigma". However, he was catching onto the word/concept of "treats" pretty quickly.
If you see him, please call the number listed below before you try to approach him. He is very gentle and would not bite; but he would probably take off again. I believe we may be able to get him to come to Ivan, our greyhound. Thank you. 717-940-4702

Black male Whippet lost on 11/24/2007.
Rio "escaped" on Nov. 24th around 8:00 PM near Melrose Drive and Custer Road in Richardson, TX.
He is neutered, he squats to pee, like a female. He has very little hair and no fat, so he is an indoor dog - especially when the weather is wet and the temp is below 50 or above 90. The night he got out was raining and in the lower 30's, so if he made it, he had a real tough time.
Please feel free to email/call me if you have any information. We would love to find Rio and reunite him with his owner. They are very worried.

Reiner, a 7-year-old neutered male Whippet, is missing from his home located near 288th
Ave and Pacific (Mountain Highway 7) Avenue in the Roy/Graham area of Washington State.
Reiner was playing on his farm when he might have come across something and followed in pursuit. His Whippet sister was with him, but sustained injuries and ran back to the house. The owner was nearby and had to handle the injured Whippet before following Reiner, but he vanished in minutes.
Reiner is very friendly. He is white with brindle patches. He is not wearing a collar and does not have a microchip. The family and friends have been searching for hours. They are making posters and will canvas the area.

Maci Whippet lost 6/22/2009 near the Big Chimney, Coopers Creek area in West Virginia.
Maci is white and red brindle, very thin and medium size. She is very friendly and a very fast runner. She plays with about any dog, in case she shows up to play wrestle with your dog. She could be anywhere by now and has on a collar. Answers to Maci. Update 1/15/2008: Sammy was last sighted in Salem, WV, near the West Virginia Industrial Home for Youth
Sammy, a nine-month-old male Whippet, white with orange brindle spots, is missing. He escaped 3 wks. ago during the recent flooding of Smithsburg, West Virginia. There was a recent sighting in Salem, West Virginia. The breeders have notified the vets and animal control in the area and his story was also on the front page of the local Smithsburg newspaper.
